Eva Glenn Obituary

Eva Jean Glenn passed away 04/04/24 AT 4:44 PM. She was born on the family farm in Windsor Township near Stockport on February 1, 1930. She was adopted by her maternal grandparents Emmett S. and Bessie D. Bailey on April 10, 1933, and enjoyed the love and support of the large extended family all her life. Jean started school at Stockport, and following Pearl Harbor the family moved to McConnelsville where she enrolled in the elementary school passing the 7th and 8th grades in one year and entering M&M to graduate as salutatorian in the Class of '47. She was baptized at the Main Street Church of Christ by the Rev. H. B. Mason who officiated at her wedding to John Wendell Glenn on May 21, 1954, at the Glenn Family farm. In later years she enjoyed the support and fellowship of the Glenn Family church, McKendree United Methodist Church. John passed away October 23, 1969.Jean worked in local stores and shops, volunteered at the local Red Cross as a first-aid instructor, and attended night school at the Ohio University Zanesville Branch in the Cadet Teaching Program. She and John had purchased acreage on Parmiter Road and built a house, barn, and pond and raised Hereford cattle. With the teacher shortage she began teaching at Rose Farm first and second grade for a semester until her College requirement of Student Teaching Training began at Mcintire School in Zanesville. She was hired in Zanesville and taught at Pioneer, Head Teacher at Sheridan, Wilson, Rufus Putnam and twelve years as Principal at Garfield-Munson. The new wing was added to Munson in 1990 to accommodate the enrollment of both schools. She retired in 1996 but returned four times for substitute assignments Jean graduated summa cum laude in 1964 from Ohio University and completed her master's degree in 1975 with special training in Head Start at Ball State University. After retirement, with the help of family, friends, and neighbors and farm managers Jean remained on the farm and became busy in local activities, especially Republican politics. She served several years as President of the Republican Women's Club, worked at the Republican booth at the fair, was chosen Republican of the Year three times, emceed the Lincoln Day Dinners several years and was awarded a 2014 Life Member Order of Merit from the Republican National Committee at the Lincoln Day Dinner. She also was appointed to a term on the Board at Washington State Community College by Gov. Robert Taft. Jean always remained in contact with fellow teachers at Muskingum County Retired Teacher meetings, Munson breakfasts, and numerous calls and cards. She frequently heard from former students. She is survived by one nephew and several great nephews; one niece. and several great nieces; special life long friend Paula Harsch and special beloved friends of long standing who have been like extended family, many colleagues, friends and neighbors; and her orange kitty, Humphrey. She will be buried in the family plot beside her husband John Wendell Glenn in the McConnelsville Cemetery. A graveside service will take place Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at McConnelsville Cemetery.
